My Introduction to Screenwriting

Earlier this year, I took a screenwriting class. As someone who has always wanted to know more about how to write a script, I was very excited to learn more about screenwriting. Initially, it was a daunting task to outline a script, but soon, I found the pacing for my story. After that, things got easier. The only thing that tripped me up was script formatting. It was difficult to find the correct format. It just goes to show that the creative part of writing is only part of the battle. Finding the correct structure to write in is important as well. Understanding the fundamental principles, mastering loglines, and learning about the three-act structure provided the foundation for my creative process.

For this class, I also had to watch a lot of short films, and that definitely helped me to write my own short film. Some of the films were as short as five minutes. Watching them showed me how a character arc can fit in such a small amount of time. Overall, it was an enlightening course. I'm so glad I signed up to take it.
